چکیده
......................................... Received: 30-04-13 Accepted: 19-12-13 Abstract Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. The annual frequency of this pathology in developed countries is estimated to be between 6.5 and 14.5 cases per million people. Most GISTs (50-70%) originate in the stomach. Symptoms vary from nonspecific abdominal complaints to abdominal pain with or without a palpable abdominal mass. Some of these patients are diagnosed incidentally when they undergo screening or upper endoscopy to diagnose bleeding. We present a case of GIST which was initially discovered because of upper gastrointestinal bleeding during a laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Synchronous Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor and Axillary Deep Fibromatosis: A Rare Association
Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract and most commonly affects the stomach, while fibromatosis is a rare locally aggressive fibrous tissue neoplasm. There have been reports of GIST and fibromatosis occurring in same individual and in most of them fibromatosis occurs within the abdomen. In 75% of patients fibromatosis occurs aft...
متن کاملGastrointestinal and Extragastrointestinal Stromal Tumors: Report of Two Cases and Review of the Literature
We present two cases, one of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in the stomach and one of an extragastrointestinal stromal tumor (EGIST) in the hepatogastric ligament, which were discovered as incidental findings during computed tomography (CT) scans performed for other reasons. In both cases the diagnosis of the tumor was confirmed histologically and immunohistochemically. During the foll...
متن کاملGastric Calcifying Fibrous Tumor Resembling Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Case Report
Calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor, affecting children and young adults with a predilection for the soft tissue and the abdominal cavity. CFT of the tubular gastrointestinal tract is very rare with less than 20 cases of gastric CFTs reported in English literature. This benign hypocellular fibrosclerotic calcifying lesion can resemble other spindle cell tumors particularl...
متن کاملSynchronous and metachronous gastric gist with pancreatic adenocarcinoma: report of 2 cases and a review of literature
We report two cases of a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) synchronous and metachronous, respectively, with pancreatic adenocarcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a GIST involved 3 years after a ductal pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Data from the literature and our cases seem to suggest that incidental GIST may occur synchronously and metachronously with other cancers more fre...

Objectives. Duplication cysts are rare benign lesions usually arising in the gastrointestinal tract. We report a case of a 52-year-old woman with an incidental gastric mass found on computed tomography during a pregraft workup for a familial cardiomyopathy. Methods. The mass was completely excised by partial gastrectomy and gross examination revealed a cystic lesion containing two small solid n...
